COP31: Carbon Recycling Should Become the Next ESG Agenda

As COP31 begins in Türkiye, I believe we must expand the conversation from carbon emissions to carbon management across the entire industrial lifecycle.

Solar panels, batteries, transmission infrastructure, and conventional power plants all carry embodied emissions. Reducing operational emissions is essential, but it is only part of the challenge.

Nature demonstrates the importance of carbon circulation. Industry should examine how engineering can apply similar principles.

Treat carbon not merely as waste, but as a potential resource that can be recovered, recycled, and reused.

At Clean Energy and Water Technologies (CEWT), we are exploring this principle through Carbon Recycling Technology (CRT), integrating CO₂ recovery, hydrogen, methanation, electricity generation, and useful heat recovery.

The environmental benefit must be established through complete mass and energy balances, life-cycle assessment, and independently verified emissions reductions.

The next ESG agenda should move beyond declarations towards measurable circular-carbon engineering.

Carbon recycling is not a substitute for reducing emissions. It is another pathway that deserves rigorous scientific, engineering, and economic evaluation.

ESG by Design, Not by Declaration.
